Críona Ní Gairbhí, our founder, mentor and original chairperson, was also the chairperson of Dalkey Writers at that time. The early meetings of our group were held in Deansgrange Public Library, hence our name.
In 2006 Críona left the group to pursue a Masters degree in Irish and the group elected a new chairperson. With the help of Celine Blacoe, we re-located to the more suitable venue of the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) nearby on Kill Avenue, where we continue to meet fortnightly. We would like to thank IADT for their continued hospitality and support.
In late 2007 it was decided that the group would work towards launching an anthology of our work. Having developed a relationship with the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) through creative writing workshops, it was agreed that any funds raised through the project would be donated to support the great work done by the NRH, a valued resource within our local community.
By 2008 the group had a membership of about 12 with maybe 5 of its original 9 members still involved. The arrival of new members brought further vibrancy to the group and we achieved a new impetus towards publishing our first anthology, entitled Crossroads.
In 2009 we began a production schedule, resulting in the publication of Crossroads, edited by local poet and former DLR Writer-in-residence, Katie Donovan.
Crossroads is a celebration of the group's work to date and a snapshot of our current writing.
All proceeds from sales of CROSSROADS will be donated
